Creating memories through life's major milestones

It's always a privilege as a photographer to be able to capture special moments and memories for my clients, and this means different things for different couples. In April, I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely couple, Shaun and Amy as they prepared for an exciting next step – trading in one coast for the other, with a move from Sydney to beautiful Perth.

Closing the chapter on Sydney

Having embarked on their adventure to Sydney together, they wanted to remember their time in this beautiful city, so we chose a stunning location that was special to them - Lavender Bay and the Milson's Point foreshore.

We lucked out with the weather. After months of endless rain (courtesy of La Niña), we were blessed with sunshine and mostly blue skies – Sydney Harbour’s absolute best.

Of course, this meant we weren’t the only ones out soaking up the sun in one of Sydney’s most scenic locations, especially because we scheduled the session for the Good Friday public holiday so that we could accommodate an earlier start time (by April, the days are getting shorter and sunset earlier, so a typical session can begin as early as 3:30 in the afternoon). This meant, there were plenty of people to navigate around, but Amy and Shaun were absolute pros, focussing only on each other. Despite the challenges, it was heart-warming to see so many people out and about after the on-and-off lockdowns in Sydney.

Shaun and Amy's photos turned out beautifully, capturing their love and connection to each other and to Sydney. It was an honour to be a part of their memories and to help them create something that they can look back on and cherish for years to come.

Speaking of next chapters...

This photo session was extra special for me as I was preparing for my own move!

I was preparing to head back home to Toronto, to be closer to family for a while following a few challenging years during the pandemic. It was a bittersweet reminder of the memories I had made in this beautiful city, but couldn't help but feeling like this session had come full circle on my chapter in Sydney.
