Maternity Portraits are always magical, but the backdrop of the Rockies added an extra layer of grandeur to Sarah & Matt's session.

Maternity portraits are more than just photographs; they are a celebration of the incredible journey of pregnancy and the impending arrival of a new life. The beauty of maternity portraits lies in their ability to freeze a moment in time, preserving the anticipation, love, and radiance that characterize this unique phase of life.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, while the decision to include a partner in maternity photos is completely up to you, I just love the images of Mum and Dad together!

Bringing Your Vision to Life

Communicating your vision and desires to your photographer is crucial for a successful maternity photoshoot. Discuss your preferences, the type of shots you'd like, and any specific poses or concepts you have in mind. Do you have a location in mind that’s near and dear to your heart? Amazing! Is there a particular vibe you are hoping to achieve? Perfect, let’s hear it! My goal is to capture your unique story, so don't hesitate to share your thoughts. Working together we can create the maternity portraits you've been dreaming of.

A Picture Perfect Location

As Calgary locals, Sarah and Matt spend as much time in the mountains as they possibly can. Most weekends, you'll find them hiking, golfing, skiing, skating - you name it. So when we started talking about locations for their maternity portraits, we knew we needed to be in the mountains. Since I travelled to Alberta for their portraits, I asked them if they had any spots in mind. We quickly decided on Quarry Lake in Canmore, and believe me when I say, that this spot took my breath away!

Choosing an Outfit or Two

Glowing Mumma-to-be, Sarah, wanted one of her outfits to reflect their relaxed and casual nature and had just the right amount of cozy for the cooler autumn weather. Pairing relaxed knit pants, a knit crop top and cozy shacked with Ugg slippers achieved this look. Keeping with the cozy theme, she chose a cream knit dress that perfectly accentuated her adorable bump for her second look.

Now I tend to recommend wearing light colours and muted shades for portraits, to keep the focus on your faces, but I especially loved how their outfits so perfectly balanced this mountain location.
